Privacy policy
What we keep about you, why, and what you can ask us. Last updated 29 October 2026.
Who we are
BOA Beauty Bar (Pty) Ltd (registration 2021/158597/07), 1a Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town, 7925. We run the BOA Beauty Bar nail salons and this booking site. Questions about your information go to our Information Officer at book@boasouthafrica.com or 021 330 5505.
What we collect
- Your details: your name, email address and mobile number, which you give us when you book, buy a gift voucher or shop, or which the salon takes when you book in person.
- Sign-in: when you continue with Google, Apple or Facebook, we receive only your name and email address from them. Facebook doesn't confirm email addresses, so after a Facebook sign-in we send a link to that address and only go on once you've tapped it. We never see your passwords for those services, and nothing is posted on your behalf.
- Bookings and visits: the salon, treatments, times, the nail technician, notes the salon keeps about your preferences, and what you paid.
- Payments: card payments are taken by Stripe. We see that you paid, the amount and the last four digits of the card, never the full card number. Company details you type for a tax invoice go on the invoice.
- Gift vouchers and loyalty points: vouchers you buy or receive (the amount, who it's for, a reference) and the points you earn and spend.
- Reviews and photos: a review you write after a visit or an order, and photos you choose to add. We show reviews on this site only if you've agreed when writing them.
- Product orders: what you ordered and the address or salon it goes to.
- Using this site: we count visits, which salon pages are looked at, Book now taps, bookings made and where the link came from (for example Instagram or Google), with the city a visit comes from. These counts are anonymous: no names, numbers, email or IP addresses are stored with them, and we don't use advertising cookies or trackers.
Why we use it
- To make, confirm, remind you about and change your bookings, and to email you a tax invoice after a visit.
- To run your BOA account: your visits, points, vouchers, favourites and reviews.
- To take payments, send gift vouchers and deliver product orders.
- To ask how your visit or order was, and to remind you when a refill is due, by email only.
- To tell you about offers only if you ticked that when booking. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also tell any salon.
- To keep the records the law asks of a business (tax invoices, for example).
Who sees it
- The salon you book at. Managers see the clients of their own salons, not of other BOA salons. Nail technicians see the day's bookings.
- Services that run the site for us: Google (Firebase, which stores bookings and signs you in), Stripe (card payments), Netlify (website hosting) and Google Workspace (our emails). When our robot check is on, Google reCAPTCHA checks that a booking is made by a person; its privacy policy applies to that check.
- Google, Apple or Facebook, only when you choose to sign in with them, and only to confirm who you are.
We don't sell your information and we don't share it with advertisers. Some of the services above store information outside South Africa, under their own privacy terms and safeguards.
How long we keep it
Your account and booking history stay while you're a client, so your points, vouchers and preferences are there next time. Sales and tax invoices are kept for five years, as the Tax Administration Act requires. Website counts are anonymous and kept as counts only.
Your rights
- See or correct what we hold about you: email book@boasouthafrica.com from the address on your account, or ask at any salon.
- Delete it: see Delete my data.
- Stop marketing emails with the link in any of them.
- Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za if you think we've mishandled your information. We'd rather you told us first.
Your browser
This site keeps a little in your browser so you stay signed in, your booking in progress survives a refresh and your bag is remembered. Clearing your browser's site data removes it. There are no advertising cookies.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Bigger changes are mentioned in the next email we send you.
